Taking the collages into 3D once again, with the help of Grasshopper. Got a bit of a crushing critique, mostly about losing the functionality of the alley in the process. But here it is anyway, for the sake of documentation:
I’m not happy with this, even though I like the form, because I’m losing the alley in all this. But you’ve got to start somewhere.
Wanted to see the collages from the previous posts divided into their components, so got the ones in the first row. Then I combined the original images with the color blocks, which ended up looking more or less like the second row (there was an intermediate iteration, but I think this one is better).
After looking over the collages in the previous post, I realized that because of the orientation of the original images they were too directional for my liking. I decided to throw some rotation into the mix, and I think these are a bit more successful in conveying the atmosphere of the alley without being too […]
An idea I’ve been puttering about with, taking my Chicago alleys project into a more architectural realm. Not really sure how to take these into 3D, but most likely I’ll start off by using these as plans and working with collage sections generated in a similar way.
